History of P.A.P.A.

Vision:
PAPA Festival seeks to continue to be a national volunteer-run, donation-based event that gathers a dynamic group of Christians and others to form a little village where we celebrate, support, and empower one another. Motivated by the Spirit of God, we foster the development of DIY, earth-sustaining, and relationship-building skills that we take home to create a more compassionate and just world.

Mission:
PAPA Festival gathers people together to listen, dream, share, and create as we explore life together, following the example of Jesus. As we camp out in a celebratory village created by a collaboration of voluntary labor, we work, rest, play, and learn so that we can return home, challenged to live out these practices in everyday life.

Morning sessions are geared toward teaching, bible studies, and panel discussions, where we ponder things like community, theology and peacemaking. In the afternoons, we have workshops and how-to sessions where folks explore anything from knitting and bike repair to drumming and carpentry. The evenings have inspiring music, circus festivities, and storytelling.

PAPA Festival has a completely different feel from your average conference or music festival, as it is a little village that is dependent on the joy and work of all of us. It is organized entirely by voluntary effort, no paid staff, and is funded by donations of those of us excited by and committed to it… Further, admission to the gathering is on a donation basis to assure that everyone is able to make it to the celebration.

What's in a name?

Our Friends at Wild Goose:

There have been conversations with the organizers of another festival happening this summer called Wild Goose. We're excited for their debut festival and are glad for ways the two festivals are similar. With both festivals there is a deep care for justice, art, music and the intersection of our faith. However, we thought each festival was unique enough to warrant two gatherings.

PAPA Fest is uniquely committed to being a volunteer-run and donation-based festival. To create our celebratory village, we rely on the significant volunteer contributions of all of our organizers and participants. This allows us to host the festival on a donation basis making the PAPA Festival more accessible to the majority of us who have committed our lives, time and money to working for justice. This also supports our wild dreams of seeing an alternative to the general economic system which is based on a gift economy. With similar yet different approaches to each gathering, we hope some folks from PAPA Fest will be able to mosey on over to the Wild Goose Festival.
